Why Preparing for Motherhood is about Turning Moments into Memories
Discover how to set up a blog to document your baby’s development in those important first years and find out how to gain balance….
Often, when people think of preparing for motherhood, they think about what they need to buy. A cot, a buggy, diapers, bottles, toys, cute little clothes… the list is endless.
But there are some things money can’t buy.
Whether you’re planning pregnancy, already pregnant or a new mother, you may be feeling the complex emotions that having a baby can bring you. Of course, there’s joy, but coupled with that may also be stress, frustration, anxiety, doubt or fear. Postpartum emotions — the so-called ‘baby blues’ — can be especially overwhelming for many new mothers.
So, preparing for motherhood is in part about being ready to deal with these emotions and knowing that you aren’t alone. Finding strength in yourself and seeking a healthy balance can help to give you greater clarity and direction, not just in motherhood but in all aspects of life.
It’s also important to remember that no number of adorable onesies and teeny tiny pairs of shoes will replace the precious moments you share with your newborn. A big part of preparing for motherhood is about embracing the journey and documenting as many of its moments as possible, good and bad. Even if it might not seem so funny at the time, one day, you’ll want to look back and laugh at the day your baby smeared puréed peas all over the walls!
It all comes down to one fact: your little one won’t stay little for long. As a parent, I wish I’d documented more of the golden moments — first smile, first laugh, first steps, first words, first word, even the first toddler tantrum — as they happened. I wish I’d taken the time to embrace my emotions and the rollercoaster ride of being a new parent. I’ve forgotten so many moments, and now they are gone for ever.
To avoid this happening to you, it’s a great idea to start an online blog. Not only will you get to relive your little one’s adventures every day or week, but when they get older, they will be able to enjoy reading it and looking at all the pictures too. Who knows, you may even end up being able to help other young parents with their questions on parenthood. You could even develop the blog into an educational platform as a small business later down the line!
In summary, preparing for motherhood is about turning moments into memories. Not counting ten tiny fingers and ten tiny toes, but embracing how you feel day to day, and finding creative ways to turn every single precious moment into a lifelong memory.
